Far-Right Ex- Lawmaker José Antonio Kast Voted In as Chile's Incoming President.
After a definitive final ballot, hardline figure José Antonio Kast has won the top job in Chile.
A Clear-Cut Win
With more than 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast won 58.17% of the vote, overcoming leftist candidate Jeannette Jara, who received 41.83%.
This marks Kast's third attempt at the presidency, having in the past been defeated by the sitting president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 final vote.
Campaign Built On Law and Order and Immigration
Known for his unwavering socially conservative views and admiration for the rule of former leader Augusto Pinochet, Kast's electoral bid was mostly centered on promises to address increasing crime and radically restrict immigration.

Despite his clear electoral triumph, Kast will not command an overall majority in Congress, neither in the Chamber of Deputies nor the Senate, even if all conservative parties are counted together.
This legislative situation might hinder his plans, such as a promise to slash public spending by $6 billion within a year and a half—a plan for which he has yet to detailed specifics.
"There are several aspects about how a Kast presidency will be that are uncertain because he has not detailed the way he will implement them," said a political science professor.
